Bertil H. Van Boer:
Received his baccalaureate degree from the University of California in Berkeley and masters in music history from the University of Oregon following additional studies in composition at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and in German literature at the University of British Columbia. His doctoral work was done at Cornell University and Uppsala University in Sweden, from which he received his Ph.D. in Musicology in 1983. An active professional violist and conductor, he has performed with orchestras in Austria, Canada, Germany, Sweden, the United States, and Nicaragua. As a musicologist, he is recognized as an authority on music of the eighteenth century, with emphasis on opera and music in Scandinavia with articles appearing in The Journal of Musicology, Svensk tidskrift fпїЅr musikforskning, Ars Lyrica, Journal of Musicological Research, Historic Brass Society Journal, Journal of Musicology, Scandinavian Studies, as well as numerous international symposium and conference reports. He is the author of several books on Scandinavian music and Swedish-German composer Joseph Martin Kraus. He is currently Professor of Musicology-Theory at Western Washington University as well as past President of the Society for Eighteenth Century Music.
