Thomas J. Mathiesen, Distinguished Professor of Music, Emeritus (Indiana University), was Director of the Center for the History of Music Theory and Literature. His articles have appeared in the _New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians_, _Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart_, and in various journals and Festschriften, and he is the author or editor of twenty-two books.
